Canfield: “Congress Must Put America First and Reject a Wider War with Iran”

Republican congressional candidate Rob Canfield today released the following statement regarding the escalating conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
“Every American stands with our troops and prays for their safety. But Congress has a responsibility to ask hard questions before sending more American lives and taxpayer dollars into another Middle East war.
I oppose expanding U.S. military action in Iran. If I were in Congress today, I would vote no on further escalation.
For more than two decades, Washington has repeatedly pulled America into foreign conflicts while our own border, economy, and national debt are ignored. The United States must return to a clear America First foreign policy — defending our country, our citizens, and our interests above all else.
Israel is an ally, but American foreign policy must always be decided in Washington, not Tel Aviv, Riyadh, or any other foreign capital. Our sons and daughters in uniform should never be placed in harm’s way because foreign governments or international pressure demand it.
Congress — not the executive branch alone — has the constitutional authority to decide when this nation goes to war. Before any further action is taken in Iran, the American people deserve a full debate and a formal vote in Congress.
At the same time, we must stay focused on the issues affecting families here at home: rising prices, crushing debt, and protecting our constitutional rights.
The mission of our government should be simple: protect American freedoms, defend our borders, strengthen our economy, and keep our citizens safe.
That is what America First means.”
